Kidney Health and Kidney Disease

The kidneys are a vital organ that help:

  •  detoxify our bodies by removing wastes and extra fluid
  • control your blood pressure
  • make red blood cells to maintain your energy levels
  • keep your bones healthy, and
  • maintain a healthy balance of chemicals to control acid levels.

A healthy diet and lifestyle is really important to keep your kidneys heal

Did you know your heart and kidneys are closely linked? A heart healthy diet and lifestyle will help you control your cholesterol levels, blood pressure and reduce your risk of kidney disease.

People with kidney disease are also at an increased risk of heart problems. A dietitian will work with you to make sure your diet supports both your heart and kidney health.

Kidney Stones

Kidney Stones

If you have kidney stones you may need to follow a special diet.  The most common types of kidney stones are calcium stones and uric acid stones. Diet changes and medical treatment are individualized based on the type of stone, to prevent them from coming back and reducing your risk of developing chronic kidney disease.
